If you don't have lots of books at home to read, the Enchanted Learning site has lots of different themes with reading and writing activities to do. Check it out at http://www.enchantedlearning.com/
For example here is a theme on weather with some rhymes to read, reading comprehension activities, and some writing tasks The first few will be OK for Year 1 & 2 students and may give you some ideas of other things that you could do at home.

There are also many eBooks online that you can access to read.
Here is one about farm animals that Year 1 & 2 children could read along. http://www.magickeys.com/books/farm/page1.html and here's one about cats and boxes http://www.magickeys.com/books/kitty/index.html If you like these there are others in the series at http://www.magickeys.com/books/

Another resource is Early Reading and Primary Grades online books and readings at Teacher Tap

Now that you have read a few online, why don't you and your kids have a go at making your own books. You can do this at home with paper, pens and crayons. Or why don't you make your own eBooks using the Paint programme (in Start -> Programmes -> Accessories for PC users) or download Tux Paint or Artrage Starter Edition from the internet.
You can then load your saved pictures into PowerPoint, if you have it, or use one of these web 2.0 tools and record your child reading the story:
